Updating of a Consumer’s Debt Review Status once the Debt Review withdrawal judicial process is complete

Prior to the National Credit Regulator’s Circular 9 of 2025 the National Credit Regulator (NCR) attended to the updating of the consumer’s debt review status as held on the NCR’s database. It is necessary that the NCR’s system is updated once the debt review process has been set aside by the judicial process or a clearance certificate issued. This update results in the removal of the debt review flag from the consumer’s credit reports as held by the various credit bureaux. From the 1st of September 2025, the responsibility of attending to the NCR DHS update shifted from the NCR to the debt counsellor – it is now the debt counsellor that updates the consumer’s debt review status once the debt review court withdrawal process is complete. In addition to the status update, the debt counsellor must upload relevant documents to the DHS system to justify the updated debt review status. Mandatory documents and legal must be uploaded on the consumer’s profile for the NCR DHS to be updated to the applicable status – see section 5 in Revised DHS Procedure to Updates Status Codes B,G,G1, I and J – Circular 9 of 2025
